In Geography this week, we have started our topic around rainforests. Using maps, atlases and globes we have been finding the countries that contain rainforests around the world. We found that the rainforests are located between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and are close to the Equator.
In P.E this week, we have been taking part in gymnastics. We practised our basic skills such as gymnastics steps, 180 and 360 degree turns whilst pencil jumping, log and dish rolls and finally front and back support. We will be building upon these skills over the coming weeks and taking part in a gymnastics competition at the end of the term.
Winter Gardens
This week, we visited the Sunderland Winter Gardens. We took part in a rainforest workshop, where we were able to handle objects from around the world and then explored the museum, finding ways in which we can help to protect the rainforests.
Science
In our unit of Science, we have been looking at states of matter. We have investigated the properties of solids, liquids and gases and learned about how temperature can affect the states of certain materials.
Science
Following on from our unit of Science, we have been building circuits. Our challenge was to make a complete circuit, so that the bulb would light up. After this, we looked at created more complex circuits, including switches, buzzers and multiple bulbs. We recognised that the more components that were added to the circuit, the dimmer the bulb was, as more power was required elsewhere in the circuits.
