Why is attendance important?

At our school we believe that in order to facilitate teaching and learning, good attendance is essential. Pupils cannot achieve their full potential if they do not regularly
attend school. Being around teachers and friends in  school is the best way for pupils to learn and reach their potential. Time in school also keeps children safe and provides access to extra-curricular opportunities and pastoral care.  Being in school is important to your child’s achievement, wellbeing, and wider development.

We understand that barriers to attendance can be complex, and that some pupils find it harder than others to attend school; therefore, we will continue to prioritise cultivating a safe and supportive environment at school, as well as strong, trusting relationships with parents and pupils. The school’s attendance lead is Mrs J. McDaid, and can be

We have a target for 96% attendance overall for the whole school. Everyone has their part to play. We know that children suffer from illness and, of course, we understand that 100% attendance is an amazing achievement and we reward this on a termly basis.

Weekly rewards are on offer in class and we celebrate with Trophies and Teds every week.

 

 

In our most recent survey, July 2025, 98% of  our parents and carers agree that good attendace is promoted by school.

Punctuality

We also promote good punctuality. School gates and classroom doors open at 8.30am and school starts at 8.45am. If a pupil arrives after 8.45am when the yard gate is closed,they enter at main reception and will be given a late mark in the register.

 Appointments
Where possible, all appointments for pupils should be made out of school hours. Parents will be responsible for ensuring their child only misses the amount of time necessary to attend the appointment. We require parents/carers  to provide confirmation of all appointments. This might be a letter, email or text message.
